1. Make the structure waterproof while maintaining recycle-ability. It could be a non-toxic treatment of cardboard, or an additional layer that envelopes/ laminates the cardboard, it could be another material altogether that has the same properties of cardboard. To prove this, applicant will need to replicate a portion of the shelter and prove that it is waterproofed. Templates will be provided to all applicants. Video will be required showing how the sample repels water.
2. Design a better mass production solution that minimizes manual labor. For example, designing a new production line method, or developing new machinery that can fold complex forms, or creating jigs to streamline assembly. The design or production has to be build-able or implementable in real life. Research will need to be submitted showing companies who can actualize your design along with cost estimates.
